BEST OF BRITISH IN ACTION IN SHEFFIELD
17 May 2007 16:56

More than 250 swimmers from 15 countries will meet in Sheffield this weekend for the British International Disability Swimming Championships.

Hot from success at last weekend’s Visa Paralympic World Cup, the cream of British swimming will compete against some of the country’s top young talent as well as athletes from nations including Canada, Australia, Iceland and Singapore.

Formerly the DSE Championships, the event has been renamed following a service level agreement between British Disability Sport Events and British Swimming which sees the two organisations working together to improve the competitive structure within Britain and position the meet as a world class competition.

For the second year running the championships, which are approved by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), will be run on a heats and finals basis to replicate the structure athletes would experience at any major event.

The three-day competition kicks off tomorrow (Friday 18 May) at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. Spectators are welcome and entry is free of charge.

Session times are as follows:
Friday: 9am-1pm, 5.30pm-7.30pm
Saturday: 9am-1pm, 5.30pm-7.30pm
Sunday: 9am-1pm, 4.30pm-6.30pm

-ENDS-
