Willy Van Rysel continued her strong form on the second day of the ASA National Masters Championships in the pool with an impressive three World records.
She smashed her second World record of the competition by taking her heat of the 50m Freestyle in 1:05.00 seconds, slicing three seconds off the previous record.
In the 400m Freestyle event Van Rysel (90), representing the Spencer Swim Team, continued to dominate in the pool taking the next World record in 10:29.76 seconds. Her final record of the day came in the 200m Backstroke event in a time of 5:02.82 seconds.
Of her accomplishments she stated: “I am on top of the world,” she said. “I am really pleased with my achievements today, I didn’t think I was going to win my third race but I claimed a World record as well.”
“I have claimed four World records in two days and I look forward to tomorrows events with the hopes of claiming more records.”
Elsewhere in the pool, Alexander Mills (55), from the Hadrian Masters club, continued to dominate his heats in the 55-59 age group, and took one World record, two European and three British records. He claimed the World record in the 100m Individual Medley heat in a time of 1:05.90 seconds.
His European and British records came in the 400m Individual Medley and the 50m Freestyle heats, continuing his form from last year.
Commenting on his successful day: “I am really pleased with the way I have swam today,” he said
“To claim a World record really was the end to a good day. I have been unfortunate this year to not have the same consistency in my training as last year, “ he said. “However, I am here to carry on my success from last year.”
“I have a thirst to claim more records than last year. I was pleased with the way that I swam today and I do enjoy shaving time off previous records. Ponds Forge is a great venue to compete in, it’s great to return here and be successful again.
Other World records slashed on the second day of the championships were in the 200m Breaststroke heats by Chris Jones (25), from the Swindon Dolphins, in a time of 2:18.04 seconds. Maidenheads Masters swimmer Duncan McCreadie (61), finished in 4:40.45 claimed the next record in the 400m Freestyle.
Veteran Masters swimmer Jane Asher (75), from Kings cormorants, smashed the final World record in the 400m Freestyle heat in a time of 6:09.40 seconds.
The 50m Freestyle event saw five other GB records broken by Hayley Bettinson (43, Birmingham), Aimee Ramm (24, GB Police), Owen Morgan (22, Cranleigh), Mark Reynolds (43, Barnet Copt) and Graham Potter (50, Elmbridge)
There were a total of five World, ten European and 23 British records broken on the second day of the event.
The final day of this year’s competition will start at 9.00am, with the mixed 800m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Backstroke, the 100m Butterfly and the 200m Freestyle team event to look forward to, followed by the concluding session of this year’s championship, which begins at 1.00pm.
The 200m Individual Medley, 100m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and the 200m Medley team event bringing a close to the proceedings in Ponds Forge.
