BATH TAKE BRITISH UNIVERSITIES TEAM TITLE
08 May 2007 14:36

University of Bath took the British Universities Team Championships title for the first time in their history over the weekend.

The team finished top of the  pile in the event – which has always been won by Loughborough University -  at the championships in Nottingham.

Bath’s Head Coach, Kim Swanwick, put this year’s result down to good performances from all on the team.

“We’re delighted with the result,” he said. “We just went in and competed well across the whole squad. It was a really good team performance.

“Everyone is in the same position at this time of the year but our swimmers finished their races strongly, picking up wins and higher places. Before we went into the Championships I said to the team it wasn’t about times, it was about winning races. That’s what everybody went there to do.”

Cameron Gibson impressed with personal bests in the 50m and 100m Backstroke, while Dan Hester was also on form, with a second place in the 200m Freestyle.

University of Bath’s second team finished third in the BUSA Trophy behind Leeds Metropolitan and Birmingham seconds.

Second: Stirling 182
Third Loughborough 180
Fourth Manchester 129
=Fifth: Birmingham & Edinburgh 89,
Seventh: Hertfordshire 83
Eighth:  Cambridge 51
