From September the country’s top synchronised swimmers will be invited to join the Great Britain Synchro Team and train full-time at the National Training Centre in Aldershot.
The British Synchro centralisation programme is underway and trials are taking place in May to determine the swimmers invited onto the scheme.
As well as receiving basic funding, selected athletes will follow a full training and competition programme with sports science, nutritional, psychological and medical support and will receive lifestyle tuition to ease relocation and allow athletes to continue their education.
Newly appointed British Synchro Performance Director Biz Price is looking forward to welcoming athletes onto a central squad.
“This is an exciting time for synchronised swimming in this country,” she said. “The centralisation of the British programme will allow athletes to focus on their development and help the sport build towards London 2012 and beyond. It is the start of Britain’s bid to put itself back on the world stage.”
