The Institute of Swimming (IoS) is briefing its army of tutors in preparation for the introduction of UKCC qualifications from January next year.
Level 1-3 Coaching qualifications in swimming, diving, synchronised swimming and water polo will be available from early 2007 and tutors are being inducted in order to deliver the new courses from January.
The ASA North East Region hosted the first tutor up-skilling day earlier this month and more are planned across the country before the end of the year. Tutors are given an overview of the new qualifications before sitting a two-hour technical paper to ensure they can deliver the UKCC syllabus.
More than 100 tutors are expected to attend up-skilling days to ensure the IoS can meet demands for the new qualifications in the new year. ASA Coach Education Manager Spencer Moore led the session for the North East Region and believes tutors play a key role in the successful introduction of the UKCC qualifications.
“As we prepare for the introduction of the new UKCC qualifications it’s imperative we update our tutors to ensure they can deliver the courses to keep the ASA and British Swimming at the forefront of teacher and coach education,” said Moore.
“The feedback from the North East session was really positive. The tutors are very excited about what the UKCC qualifications have to offer and are looking forward to delivering their first courses in the new year.”
The first UKCC Coaching qualifications will be available from January 2007 and the Teaching strands will be launched in September.
