SWIMMING DIRECTOR MASON TO RECEIVE OBE
01 Jan 2007 18:40

British Swimming Director of World Class Operations Ian Mason is to receive an OBE as part of the Queen’s New Years Honours List.

The New Year Honours List reflects and pays tribute to outstanding achievement and service right across the community and Mason receives his OBE in recognition of his exceptional contribution as Chair of Scottish Swimming from 1993 to 2006.

Mason joins swimming volunteers Daphne and Mick Geer of Royal Tunbridge Wells Monson who will receive MBEs for services to sport and Trevor Burchick of Northern Wave Swimming Club for services to the community.

Daphne is a former President of the Southern Counties ASA and Mick, who is head coach and President of Royal Tunbridge Wells Monson, has been involved with the club for over 50 years and has coached at the Paralympic and Commonwealth Games.

Burchick of Salford Quays was recognised for his contribution to his local community, in particular his involvement in hosting the first ever 'Gay Olympics' - the 2005 Pride Games in Manchester.
