Britain’s women finished second to a strong German team at the Six-Nation Tournament in Tavira last weekend.
Competing against hosts Portugal as well as Germany, Sweden, Czech Republic and Switzerland, the British contingent put in a number of superb performances to finish in second place.
The first day saw Britain take on their Swedish opponents taking the match 14-4. The second match of the day for Britain saw then beat hosts Portugal in a game that the British won 9-6.
Day two saw them play both the Czech Republic and eventual tournament winners Germany.
After claiming a 10-7 win over the Czech’s, the British squad then faced a dominant German team.
Ranking seventh in the European rankings, Germany were the only team to remain unbeaten throughout the three-day event.
Despite losing 16-7 to the Germans, the British team can be pleased with their performances.
The team then went on to face Switzerland walking away as winners, taking the game 20-2 on the final day of competition.
The event in Tavira was the first international competitive match for the women in nine months.
“The team should be very proud of themselves,” said Sarah Dunsbee, Team Manager in Portugal.
“The spirit and determination that was shown was fantastic and results such as this prove just how much the squad has come along in the past few months.”
“We have a history of not beating teams such as the Czech Republic, so physiologically this will be a great boost for the squad.”
