DEFENDING CHAMPIONS HOPE TO RETAIN TITLES
23 Feb 2007 14:54

The best men and women’s water polo teams from around the country will descend on Manchester this weekend for the British Water Polo Championships.

Eight teams will battle it out to be crowned as the top male and best female team in the country.

The preliminary round for the men’s finals this weekend took place last week, with current champions City of Lancaster qualifying alongside Rotherham, Cheltenham and Portobello.

City of Sheffield, City of Manchester, City of Liverpool and West London Penguins will fight it out for the women’s title.

City of Lancaster will be looking to make it five titles in a row.

The 2006 championships saw the squad take the honours home despite the efforts of a Bristol side with a lot to prove.

City of Sheffield will also be looking to add a third title to their collection in as many years.

With old rivalries set to be re-ignited, this year’s championships promises to bring plenty of excitement.
