The Amateur Swimming Association’s North East region was presented with the Roger Hopson Memorial Award for National Governing Body of the Year at the BBC North East Sports Awards 2006 last night.
The award has given the team recognition for the hard-work and dedication of both staff and volunteers.
Jessica Dickons won the award for BBC Talented Young Sportsperson of the Year, while double Commonwealth Champion Chris Cook was named Sports Personality of the Year.
Cook’s coach, Ian Oliver was runner-up in the Coach of the Year category.
The awards ceremony will be televised on the BBC Look North programme at 6.30pm this evening.
