Survive and Save Club is the first club in the country to be recognised by the Amateur Swimming Association’s (ASA) Aquamark accreditation scheme.

The ASA is the national governing body for swimming and Aquamark is its quality seal of approval for swimming lesson providers. It is an original and unique programme, designed to improve and enhance the quality of learn to swim programmes in the UK focusing on a best value service principle.
Comprising of four modules, operators are assessed on areas such as Programme Operation, Staffing, Customer Relations and Policy and Strategy. To achieve top-level accreditation, premier status, then a centre must pass all four criteria and to achieve approved status the centre must pass two of the four criteria.
The club has been working towards accreditation for the past four months and was awarded with approved status earlier this month.
The club has already seen success and has been recognised under the ASA’s Swim 21 scheme and received Teaching accreditation in February 2005. The ASA’s club development model, Swim 21 recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members.
Survive and Save Club, which is affiliated to both the national governing body for swimming and the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS), has also been previously commended for its diverse membership, which includes young swimmers and teachers from a broad range of cultural and religious backgrounds.
Aquamark Assessor Sue Webb was impressed with the club’s desire for success and foundations for personal development.
“Survive and Save Club have remained a friendly and family orientated club,” she said. “They have a clear vision of their future and have set the club on the path to become a centre of excellence. They have made great efforts to implement good practice in every area. Survive and Save is a role model for equality, encouraging people from ethnic minority groups into teaching.
“It provides unique opportunities within the club for training, funding and support for staff to develop their skills and qualifications. To date they have achieved remarkable success in encouraging their older swimmers to remain in the club and to gain a wide range of professional qualifications. Survive and Save club are to be commended for their outstanding achievements in such a short time.”
