People from Southampton are being invited to attend a special diving display featuring Commonwealth and Olympic divers at Southampton City Council’s leisure venue The Quays, Eddie Read Swimming and Diving complex this month.
The two diving displays, which take place on Saturday 17th June, will be the first ever events to be held showcasing Southampton Diving Academy’s talent ranging from Commonwealth and Olympic medallist, Peter Waterfield to junior members aged from six-years-old.
Southampton Director of Coaching, Lindsey Fraser said: “We are hosting this special diving event, which involves two diving displays at 5pm and 7pm on Saturday, to give the people of Southampton the chance to see first hand some of the spectacular Academy divers performing.”
Commonwealth divers who train at The Quays and will be performing at the event include Peter Waterfield (24), who scooped a silver medal at this year’s Games in Melbourne, and England team mates Gary Hunt (21) and Gareth Jones (21).
Stacie Powell (19), who came fourth in the synchronised platform event, and Monique McCarroll (25) who competed in platform and synchro events, will also be performing.
During the showcase, which takes place at the Harbour Parade centre, there will be individual performances, mass flights in which several academy members dive at the same time from different heights and comedy dive sketches.
Lindsey added: “This is a perfect opportunity for people from the city to gain a unique insight into the training and competitions which take place at The Quays ranging from our junior clubs to Olympic and Commonwealth standard divers.”
