Q. Do I need a Lifesaving Award?

A. Not necessarily but it may help in seeking employment. The recommended life guarding award is the Rescue Tests for Teachers/Coaches of Swimming or the National Pool lifeguard qualification.

Q. Do I have to be a good swimmer?

A. Again, not necessarily although some swimming ability may enhance your approach to some of the skills you will teach.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. This varies depending on the costs of pool time. There is a standard assessment cost paid to the ASA but the course cost is the responsibility of the course organiser.

Q. Can I get funding to help me gain an ASA qualification?

A. Almost certainly the answer is yes as ASA qualifications are recognised by the appropriate government agencies. Check with your local learning and skills council and your local further education college.
