INTRODUCTION TO TOP SPORT SWIMMING and THE SWIMMING COMPONENT OF THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM

Pre-requisite
ASA Teacher Level 2 Certificate

Aim
To equip an ASA qualified swimming teacher to deliver TOP Sport Swimming and to become familiar with the swimming component of the National Curriculum

Objectives

1. To introduce TOP Sport Swimming

Syllabus

Philosophy of the Tops Programme
-
Content of the Top Swimming Cards
-
Integrating TOP Sport Swimming into the swimming programme

2. To introduce the swimming component of the National Curriculum

Syllabus
- General requirements of the National Curriculum for Physical Education
-
Programme of study for swimming at key stage 2 and 3
-
Planning and evaluating in the context of physical education

Assessment in the context of a whole school policy

3. To make teachers aware of the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS)

Method of Assessment
This course will be non-assessed

Time Allocation

Four hours

Course Administration

- Each course will normally comprise a maximum of 20 candidates per tutor

- All administration will be through the ASA Workforce Development Office

All tutors must be registered with the ASA
