GENERAL INFORMATION

First sporting success: I won a Mr Muscle competition when I was 5. I was on holiday and entered but I didn't realise that it was for men. I think I won through sympathy!

Finest sporting moment: European Short Course gold in 1998 in the 200m breaststroke. Also gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2002- it was good to win on home turf

Tip for the top: Never give up- you can't give up on a dream

First GB selection year: 1997

Sporting heroes: Nick Gillingham and Adrian Moorhouse. I remember Nick from a very young age and had always looked up to him and his achievements as I was growing up. I admire anyone who makes it and achieves in his or her sport because it isn't easy. You have to put a lot of work into your sport to get the best out of it

Closest friend in sport: The GB squad from 2000-2002

Favourite sport other than swimming: Fishing is really relaxing- I really enjoy it. I'm a fan of most sports though to be honest. I'm a Leeds United FC supporter too!

Favourite drink: Squash on the rocks!

Three words that best describe you:
Tenacious, dedicated and determined

Would most like to meet: Lance Armstrong

Biggest influence on career: Parents (Peter and Janet), coach Nick Sellwood and close friends who all helped me through the bad times (2000-2002). Nick has been my coach since I was 10. I appreciate him a lot and everything he has done for me

Toughest opponent: Chris Cook- he puts everything into every race whether it be the heats or the final. You know that when you race him, he's going to be pushing you and giving everything he's got. All of the GB breaststrokers are amazing swimmers an are all difficult to beat

Biggest passion away from swimming: My family. I love them to bits!

Biggest disappointment: Performances in Sydney 2000. In a way I still think I'm getting over that. Not making the Athens team was hard also

Favourite venue and why: The Olympic pool from the Sydney Olympics. It held 20,000 people and the atmosphere was amazing

Tips to relax: Just chill out really

Family: My mum and dad are called Janet and Peter. My mum is now a retired Head Teacher and my dad was and insurance salesman but he's just retired too. I have a sister called Lorna and she's married with two children. I love being an uncle- they're great kids

Ultimate ambition: To win an Olympic gold medal. I want to be back in the form that I know I can be

Where do you see yourself in 10 years: Retired. I really want to be able to use sport to help people. I hope to use sport as an outlet for children with a disability or children with behavioural problems in the future
