The Community Coach Scheme is a DCMS funded programme aiming to establish 3,000 paid and qualified coaches in local communities by 2006. Swimming is one of the many sports that has already started to benefit from this with over 25 part time and full time positions across England already approved

The key aims of the programme are to offer a career structure in coaching, increase the number of qualified coaches at local level, offer support in the development of coaches and ensure the availability of high quality coaching opportunities with a focus on young people.

The implementation of the programme is largely being driven by Regional Sports Boards through the County Sports Partnerships and most the positions are working at fundamentals- swim skills level and helping to improve school- club links.
