ASA/Sports Coach UK

Safeguarding and Protecting Children*

* Formerly Good Practice and Child Protection - click here for more information on this change

Protect yourself, the young people you are coaching and your employer by understanding and following good coaching practice. Learn about child abuse and how to handle situations if you have concerns. This workshop will help you, the Teacher/Coach:

  • Identify good coaching practice to promote a positive relationship with children
  • Identify sport situations and coaching practice that might constitute either poor practice or possible abuse
  • Identify ways of dealing with your own feelings about child abuse
  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse and appreciate why reporting it is so difficult
  • Identify appropriate action if abuse is suspected
  • Identify appropriate action if a child discloses he/she has been abused
  • Describe appropriate practice that reduces the likelihood of abuse occurring

This 3-hour workshop is an excellent opportunity for anyone involved in swimming to learn and understand more about this sensitive and important subject.

Workshops that are organised in conjunction with the ASA are specific to swimming and delivered by ASA Tutors.

Attendance at this workshop qualifies as evidence of attending an accredited child protection seminar for the ASA Teacher/Coach Licencing scheme.

For workshops currently organised click here

Workshops that are not specific to swimming but are generic for all sports are also available to attend, please see www.sportscoachuk.org for more information.
