Favourite event: 200m Breaststroke. I am more comfortable at that distance.
Finest ever performance/Why: Commonwealth Games 2006, I won 200m Breaststroke silver. It was my first major meet medal, and the first time I raced against Leisel Jones. It also was the first time I really showed I could shift my 100m Breaststroke form to the 200m Breaststroke. I was confident before the race as I had no pressure on me at all. I achieved a 3 second plus PB from heats to final.
First senior international meet: 2001 European Short Course Championships in Antwerp. I broke the British record for the 100m Breaststroke in my semi-final only for Heidi Earp to break it in the second semi-final. I held my first British Record for about 2 minutes!
My aspirations are: To carry on as long as I am happy and continue to enjoy swimming.
Tip for the top: Relax and be happy when you are swimming.
Life after swimming: Well I am getting married in November in Perth (Scotland). I think everything is under control for the wedding. Although ask me again after the Olympics!
Music: I like classical and old style easy listening. Johnny Cash was the last cd I bought.
If I wasn’t a swimmer I would be a: Some other sport. I did athletics when I was younger. My father does marathons and triathlons.
Describe yourself in three words: Calm / Conscientious / Focused
Would most like to meet: Michael Palin. I Like his books, he has great stories. He is the sort of person who you want at dinner parties.
Most prized possession: Just having a fit and healthy body.
Biggest influence on career: My coaches Ally Whike, Tim Jones and Fred Vergnoux
Sporting relations: My dad still competes in triathlons at the age of 60, in a 40 year olds body! I have three sisters and I was the first one of us to beat dad at anything!
