....the rest of 2007....

At the end of 2007 I raced in two great competitions - the Eindhoven Meet which had some Canadian swimmers and Peter van der Hooganbaan, an Olympic Champion racing.

I went there without a race and was ranked fairly well in the 200m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle.

I swam the 200m Freestyle the first day and with a solid swim in the morning I was in lane 8 for the final. I was hoping to go faster in the final and come back strong and I did this.

I swam eqaul to my best which, unrested, was great and I had the fastest last 50m in the race finishing fourth -just off a medal.

The next race was the 400m Freestyle and this was also another good race where I decided to back end the race I also did this but was just pipped to winning but was also a season best.

After this meet I decided that I would move sqauds and train with Kevin Renshaw at Loughborough still as I needed fresh stimulous before olympic trials. Since I've been with Kev I've improved a lot and have lost a lot of weight which is helping me swim faster.

I have also been on a warm weather camp in South Africa and had three great weeks of training out there and learnt alot about training and my diet - I'm very confident leading into trials.

july 2007 blog

I have been training for the ASA National Championships which went well. I was slightly disapointed with my results  - I came second in a fast race in the 400m Freestyle in my second fastest time to date. In the 200m Freestyle I came fourth just outside my best also.

I then travelled to America for the US Nationals the day after Nationals, and despite the long haul flight I still managed to make the a final in the 400m Freestyle, with 6 out of the 8 being Olympic medalists.

I also made a final and came 4th in 4x200m Freestyle Relay.

june 2007 blog

Back to travelling again but this time in Rome for a swim meet and then onto Sardinia for a 10-day camp.

This meet went a lot better than the America meet and I suprised myself at how fast I could swim without a rest.

I swam just off my personal best in the 200m Freestyle to win the 'B' final from Lane 8 and the time would have given me 7th position in the 'A' final which was good as it featured a Commonwealth gold medalist and a World Championship medalist.

The camp in Sardinia was also a great move forward in my training preparation and the facilities were amzing in every way.

may 2007 blog

I had been picked to travel with the men's team to Arizona, America for a three-week training camp and a competition in California.

The camp was very successful and I swam some of my best sets week in week out but this hard intense camp left me very fatigued and going into the competition I didnt feel as confident as I'd have liked but when I got to California I swam better than I thought.

After a week off training I was back in the water and trying to get a good cycle in for the summer ASA National Championships to be held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

march 2007 blog

My preparation for British Championships are going well and I’m feeling fresh.

I’ve still been keeping on top of my core stability program and I’m feeling confident and strong in the water.

My aims for Manchester are to win the 200m and 400m Freestyle and to improve my times, and try and gain a top 16 in the world ranking in the 400m Freestyle.

february 2007 blog

This month has been all about preparation and training for the British Championships at the end of March. My aims for this are to move into the top 16 in the world. I have made many alterations to help me achieve this mainly outside the pool.
They are:

1) Increased number of gym sessions from 3 to 6. And instead of lifting weights i have been doing circuits and focussing on my core stability which is weak. My racing will benefit from these changes

2) I have also had meetings with a nutritionist to talk about how I can fulfil my full potential with the right diet and ensure that when resting before a big meet, I don’t put weight on

3) I am also looking to move to Loughborough so I’m closer to the pool and would use the money from Kellogg’s to pay for rent

january 2007 blog

In the month of January I have got back into training after the Christmas break.

I have a new land programme which consists of going to the gym six times a week straight after my morning session, and doing circuits.
