How do I obtain a life saving qualification?

There is no element of lifesaving in the asa teaching/coaching syllabuses.  The current Health and Safety guidelines put the responsibility for lifeguarding onto the authority in charge of the pool.  The pool authority will set the required standard for those who use its facilities.  The National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) is considered to be a suitable level of expertise to safely supervise a programmed aquatic activity.  All Teachers and Coaches with asa qualifications are strongly advised to hold this certificate and keep it up to date.  Full details of this award and life saving qualifications are available from Lifesavers, The Royal Life Saving Society UK at www.lifesavers.org.uk.
