Eastern promise – Olympic preview

Roger Guttridge speaks to the national performance directors in an attempt to assess Britain’s targets, hopes and prospects for Beijing.

It’s early on August 10 and competition at the 2008 Olympic Games is barely into its second day – yet already Britain has two swimming medals on the board. Wishful thinking? Complete fantasy? Perhaps, but you wouldn’t bet your house against Hannah Miley winning a medal in the 400m IM or Jemma Lowe to make waves in the 100m butterfly. Both have zoomed into the stratosphere of world rankings in recent months and both are among the 14 British swimmers in action in the opening heats session on August 9….
