One team one dream – Olympic round-up

When Becky Adlington stepped from the pool after the 800m freestyle final, her coach Bill Furniss asked her: ‘What have you just done?’ What she had just done was swim her way into history. Not just British Swimming history – that was a box already ticked when she won the 400m freestyle five days earlier. This time she had gone a massive step further. In winning the 800m freestyle in a time of 8:14.10, Mansfield’s most famous daughter had destroyed the longest world record in the FINA books – and arguably the greatest of all time….
