UKCC Levels 1 & 2

Q What does the UKCC Level 1 qualify me to do?
A UKCC Level 1 Coach will be able to deliver a pre-prepared session prepared by a more senior coach.

Q What swimmers are needed for the Level 1 course?
UKCC Coaching Level 1 Unit 1 does not have to have swimmers for the practical parts, but Unit 2 requires access to swimmers from a Swim 21, SwiMark or Dragon Mark club or a club working towards these.

Q Can I apply for a Level 2 course if I am currently doing my Level 1?Candidates must have their Level 1 certificate before they can book onto the relevant Level 2 course.  It is recommended that candidates gain as much experience as possible in between completing their Level 1 and Level 2.

Q How old do I have to be to attend a Level 1 course?
Candidates must be at least 16 years old at the start of the course.

Q How old do I have to be to attend a Level 2 course?
Candidates must be at least 17 years old at the start of the course. Please note that there will be no exemptions granted for candidates under the age of 17.

Q I have gained my Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Aquatics; can I automatically go on to do Level 2 Coaching Swimming?
Candidates must complete Level 1 Unit 2 Coaching Swimming before they can move onto Level 2 Coaching Swimming. Once they have gained Level 1 Coaching Swimming candidates can then complete Level 2 Units 4-6 Coaching Swimming.

Q For Level 2 Unit 6, what does it mean that Unit 6 is off course? How do I organise my Unit 6 placement if I do not have a place of work?
Unit 6 is a practical assessment where candidates must plan and deliver six sessions to the same group of swimmers.  This can often be done as an off course assessment which means that the candidate goes back to their home environment to deliver and an assessor will visit them there.  If a candidate does not have a place of work then we would ask an IoS approved centre if they can accommodate the candidate for Unit 6 studies.
