MAIN NEWS

Beijing-bound – Olympic trials
Twenty-four British records, nine Commonwealth records, two European records and one world record.  Thirty-five qualifiers for the Olympic team with the possibility of a few more to be added later.  Was there ever a better set of performances at an Olympic trials and British Championships.

‘There has been, quite clearly, a quantum leap forward for swimming in Britain,’ said national performance director, Michael Scott.  ‘There are certainly many positives and a good spread of events for both the men and the women.’  But he warned: ‘There are also things to work on and we must put this in context.  World swimming has moved on in the last six months and there are  many nations who have yet to hold their trials.  We haven’t fallen behind but I believe this is going to be a fast Olympics and that’s a challenge we have to meet.  We have to maintain our momentum.’
