Brodie Williams is a versatile backstroke and individual medley athlete who has won European and Commonwealth Gold - cementing his position on the British Swimming team for the 2023 World Aquatics Championships following a successful 2022.
Williams' 2022 summer campaign began at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, with the athlete achieving a best finish of fourth in the 200m Backstroke final. The Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with Team England then followed, with Williams taking three medals from three events, the highlight being a spectacular victory in the 200m Backstroke final. he then rounded off his summer with a trio of events at the European Aquatics Championships in Rome.
A
hat-trick of silver medals was won by Brodie at the 2022 British Swimming Championships.
With the 400m Individual Medley, the 100m and 200m Backstroke all providing
success for the Bath British Swimming Performance Centre swimmer, the upcoming World
Championships and Commonwealth Games are now the next step on his international
journey.
His two events at the Tokyo Olympic Games gave a glimpse of what is to come. A solid heat performance in the 400m Individual Medley was followed by an impressive heat swim in the 200m Backstroke, which set him up for his first Olympic semi-final. Finishing 15th in the event, solid experience was gained.
Williams - who was coached in Bath by Jol Finck and then David McNulty - beat the Olympic consideration time in the Men's 400m Individual Medley at April's British Swimming Selection Trials, before going on to compete in that event and the 100m and 200m Backstroke at his second European Championships, in Budapest.
The Bath Centre man, who was previously based at the Millfield School training programme under Euan Dale, showed how effectively he had made the transition from the junior to senior ranks in becoming a European champion back in 2018. He reached the semi-finals of both the 100m and 200m Backstroke events in Glasgow, where he ultimately finished 10th and 11th. He also played his part in the gold medal-winning relay of the Men's 4x100m Medley.
Williams made a trip to the British Championship podium in 2018 as he claimed silver in the 200m Backstroke which helped secure him his first call-up to a senior international competition representing Great Britain.
His 2017 season finished with a great learning experience as he reached the 400m Individual Medley final of the World Junior Swimming Championship in Indianapolis.
