Liam Tancock is Great Britain’s most successful male swimmer of the past decade, having won medals at four consecutive FINA World Championships.
Tancock (England) had another strong and consistent year on the World stage. He started 2015 off with two silver medals at the British Swimming Championships in London which saw him qualify for his fifth World Championships in Kazan, Russia. Tancock then went on to place himself in two world finals finishing seventh and eighth in the 50m and 100m Backstroke respectively.
After injury problems throughout 2013, Tancock underlined his durability with bronze medals over 50m and 100m Backstroke at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games - his eighth and ninth Commonwealth medals for Team England.
He is also a double Olympian, making the finals in both the 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley at Beijing 2008, then finishing fifth in the 100m Backstroke and fourth with the 4x100m Medley Relay quartet at London 2012.
He won the World Championship titles for the first time at the Rome World Champs in 2009, setting a world record in the process, then defended his crown in Shanghai two years later.
While he won 100m Backstroke gold at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games, Tancock's greatest achievements have come in 50m.
The Devonian broke through with 50m Backstroke bronze on his senior debut at the 2005 World Champs in Montreal and has since won medals at Commonwealth and European level as well as four more on the world stage.
