Following his World Championship debut in 2017, Mark Szaranek received a call-up from Team Scotland for the first time and returned from the Gold Coast a double medallist.
An individual Commonwealth silver in the Men's 400m Medley event has earnt him a spot on the Glasgow-bound European Championships team this summer. Szaranek's bronze was won for his part in the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay.
With silver medals in both the Men's 200m and 400m individual medley at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield, Szaranek (Scotland) cemented his place in the senior ranks of British Swimming which in turn earned him a spot on the Budapest-bound World Championships team this summer.
Throughout the 2015 and 2016 seasons, he continued to make senior finals at the British national championships in London and Glasgow respectively, demonstrating his progression to a senior swimmer.
In 2013 Szaranek was part of the British team at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Poznan, Poland. He won a silver medal as a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay and a bronze in the 200m IM.
On completion of his schooling, Szaranek made the move to the University of Florida and joined the Florida Gators to continue his swimming career.
