Mark Szaranek claimed two silver medals at the 2017 British Swimming Championships to secure his debut call-up to a World Championships team where he competed in the Men's 200m and 400m Individual Medley events.
With silver medals in both the Men's 200m and 400m individual medley at the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield, Szaranek (Scotland) cemented his place in the senior ranks of British Swimming which in turn earned him a spot on the Budapest-bound World Championships team this summer.
Throughout the 2015 and 2016 seasons, he continued to make senior finals at the British national championships in London and Glasgow respectively, demonstrating his progression to a senior swimmer.
In 2013 Szaranek was part of the British team at the LEN European Junior Swimming Championships in Poznan, Poland. He won a silver medal as a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay and a bronze in the 200m IM.
On completion of his schooling, Szaranek made the move to the University of Florida and joined the Florida Gators to continue his swimming career.
Mark's swimming career began under the direction of his father and coach, John Szaranek, at Carnegie Swimming club in Scotland.
