Ollie Hynd MBE is a Paralympic, world, European and Commonwealth Champion and is one of the few athletes in Para-Swimming to hold all of those titles at the same time - the swimming grand slam.
Hynd was due to attend his second Commonwealth Games representing Team England but following a reclassification to an S9 he was no longer eligible to compete in Australia.
At the 2018 British Para-Swimming International Meet claimed MC 100m Backstroke bronze and secured his place on the Dublin-bound team.
Hynd missed out on an international racing opportunity in 2017, after the earthquake in Mexico City the team were unable to attend the World Championships.
Rio 2016 proved to be another highly successful year for Hynd including two Paralympic titles in Rio and he broke his own world record in the S8 400m Freestyle and lowered the 200m Individual Medley world standard. He came home from the European Championships with four medals, three of them gold.
Hynd came home with a silver medal at the 2017 British Para-Swimming International Meet. He swam a strong 200m Individual Medley to get back onto the podium.
Hynd had a highly successful second outing at the IPC Swimming World Championships in the summer of 2015, winning a double gold in the S8 400m Freestyle and SM8 200m Individual Medley. A third medal in the form of a bronze came for Hynd in the S8 100m Backstroke event. Medals in the same three events at BPSIM 2015 earlier in the year saw him qualify for the Worlds team.
In 2014, he added the Commonwealth SM8 200m Individual Medley title to his collection as well as claiming double gold (200m IM, 400m Freestyle) at his second IPC Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven.
Hynd added IPC World Championship gold medals over 400m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley in Montreal in 2013 and was also appointed MBE in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to swimming.
Success in international swimming continued as he made his Paralympic debut at London 2012 alongside his brother Sam. Hynd ensured he did not go back to Nottinghamshire empty-handed; taking a silver in S8 400m Freestyle, bronze in S8 100m Backstroke, and a gold in SM8 200m Individual Medley, smashing his previous European record in the latter.
Oliver Hynd swam on to the world scene in 2011, securing a spot at his first major championships with his performances at the British International Disability Swimming Championships in Sheffield. The S8 swimmer impressed later in the year at the IPC European Championships in Berlin, achieving gold in 200m Individual Medley as well as 400m Freestyle silver and 100m Backstroke bronze.
