Marathon swimmers head to LA for USA Nationals

15 May 2017

A five-strong British contingent are ready for action at the USA National Championships with the cream of American swimming expected to compete.

Olympian Jack Burnell will lead the contingent into action as he competes in his second 10km race of the season having previously won gold at the FINA World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

Danielle Huskisson will show her strength in the women’s race as she aims to qualify for her second World Championships after competing at Kazan 2015.

The competition will provide athletes with the opportunity to seal their place on the plane to Budapest as they tackle the 10km course in Lake Castaic, LA.

For Marathon Swimming Lead, Bernie Dietzig, this competition is one of the best races for athletes to prepare for the World Championships.

“The US Nationals is a valuable race in our season as it gives us an opportunity to face up to some of the world’s best athletes two months out from the World Championships.

“For us this event will act as the qualifier for Budapest with the highest male and female finisher securing their places in the 10km event at the World Championships.

“The race is situated well for our calendar and provides a great opportunity for our Marathon swimmers to fine tune their race skills and accumulate more race kilometres leading into the World Championships.”
