Vasey secures semi-final spot

Sarah Vasey (National Centre Loughborough) returned to racing on the penultimate day of the FINA World Championships as she went in the Women’s 50m Breaststroke.

Vasey continued to demonstrate her form after comfortably progressing through to the semi-finals after she posted the eighth fastest swim of the morning.

“Yeah I’m happy for a heats swim,” said Vasey. “I’m into the next round so that’s all that matters really.

“I was definitely more focused on the 100m simply because that was the event I technically qualified on but I’ve always been a bit better at the 50m so I was quietly confident going into it but just happy to make the semi.

“I would love to make another final. I’ve loved racing here, I’ve had three or four days without racing and I was literally itching to go again because the atmosphere is like nothing else.”

Also in action on the seventh day of swimming in Budapest was another World Championship rookie, Freya Anderson (Ellesmere College) competed in the Women’s 50m Freestyle, where she ranked 32nd after 10 heats.

Daniel Jervis (City of Swansea) went in the third heat of the Men’s 1500m Freestyle and finished 18th overall.
