Couch and Toulson secure fifth place in Rio

9 Aug 2016

In another close battle at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Tonia Couch and Lois Toulson secured fifth place in the Women's 10m Synchro Final.

The pair performed consistently throughout the final with a score of 100.80 after their required dives.

They scored a huge 79.68 for their Back 2 ½ Somersaults 1 ½ Twists piked to move them into fourth place.

Marks were dropped on their last dive after their entries kicked up some splash and they finished in fifth place with a score of 319.44.

After the result was confirmed Couch said, "“I think we would have been more nervous for that final dive if we were in the top three on the way through.

“But knowing we were fourth or fifth, I just relaxed, had fun and got on with it. The competition was so much fun and it was great to do synchro with Lois.

“Some of the teams here have been competing together for years. We’ve been competing together for eight months so I didn’t want to go in panicking and we just wanted to give it our all.

“I felt so much more relaxed after Tom and Dan winning a medal yesterday. I don’t know why but I felt so different after yesterday and I was buzzing.”

Tonia Couch returns to the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre later in the week to compete in the Women's 10m Platform event.
