Tonia Couch has secured a place in the 10m Platform semi-final after a performance that saw her score a total of 332.80 and finish in fifth place overall.

Couch had a shaky start to the prelim with a score of 54.00 points in the first round but fought back to put herself into the top five throughout the next four dives.

She performed her Inward 3 ½ Somersaults tucked excellently to receive a score of 80.00 points.

She finished the competition with a score of 64.40 for her Reverse 2 ½ Somersaults tucked to secure her place in the semi-final.

Couch said: “It was hard to stay focused for such a long time in a 28-diver preliminary round but it was pretty steady. Three of my dives were really good so hopefully I can do those again tomorrow and the two that I dropped a little bit hopefully I can step them up tomorrow.

“I had a shaky start but I had a talking to myself when I got to the handstand and shook things up a little as I was a little bit flat to start off with. I will make sure I have a good sleep and that I am really pumped for tomorrow. To qualify fifth with two dives dropped, it is a good start.

Sarah Barrow finished in 23rd place overall in the prelim with an overall score of 277.40.

“My warm up was actually quite good so I felt good going into the competition as that was probably the best I have dived since I have been out here so I felt ready. My first dive was good but by second dive was the one that had been a bit troubling in training. Sometimes it works in your favour for competitions and other times it doesn’t and it didn’t here.

“It was difficult to get myself back in from there but I have enough experience and should have. I tried my absolute best but training has been really hard out here.

“I am not making excuses as I have enough experience and it just wasn’t meant to be and I’m disappointed not to be in the semis."
