Lauren Cox will be making her first appearance at a World
Championships this summer in Fukuoka thanks to two impressive performances at
the 2023 British Swimming Championships, as she continues to build following
a successful 2022.
A gold medal in the 50m Backstroke at the flagship domestic
event in Sheffield, alongside a silver medal in a strong 100m Backstroke final,
put her on her way to Japan this summer - as she looks to make an impression on the
world stage.
The previous year was a memorable one for Cox – a brace of
relay medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham were her first
international medals since a silver in the 50m Backstroke at the 2018 European
Junior Championships, and she narrowly missed on individual podiums in the 50m Backstroke (fourth) and 100m Backstroke (fifth).
A Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay bronze medal at the 2022
European Aquatics Championships in Rome then rounded off the summer for the backstroke specialist,
whose international summer was set up by two gold medals at the 2022 British Swimming Championships.
