Reid completes GB clean sweep of Paris spots

Grace Reid ensured Britain will have a full quota of diving spots at this summer's Olympic Games as she placed eighth in the Women's 3m Springboard final at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha.

With Ross Haslam having secured the outstanding place for Team GB in the men's springboard event earlier in the week, and Tom Daley and Noah Williams sewing up the Men's 10m Synchro place with Thursday's silver medal, GB were 11 Olympic spots from 12 ahead of the women's springboard contest.

Grace progressed through a long preliminaries yesterday and, with so many other divers in the semi-final having already qualified a Paris place already, had the Olympic place for Britain in the bank as part of the top 18.

Steady again through the semi, she would ultimately go on to place eighth in the World Championship final, closing as always with a strong Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike (5152B) as her highest-scoring dive, ending with 284.00 points overall.

Having also made history earlier in this World Championships by claiming British Diving's first ever individual Worlds medal in a women's event with 1m Springboard silver, Reid was able to reflect on a job well done, personally and as a team.

"It was great to get that 1m Springboard medal, and I'm over the moon to be a world medallist - but the biggest job was definitely getting this quota spot for GB," she said.

"It's been a very successful Worlds, even if I'm a little bit frustrated with my final today. But I think it's good leaving and wanting a little bit more. I think it [qualifying the Olympic quota spots] was weighing on everybody's mind, we knew there was a job to do - and I think everyone was aware that there were just a couple of spots left.

"We really wanted to deliver, and I am so delighted that I was the one who went and got that quota spot for GB. Every time I've had to go and get it, I have done, so it's a full success record!"

Grace will be back in action one more time in Doha when she partners Ross Haslam in the Mixed 3m Synchro on Saturday afternoon.

That final will be sandwiched by the semi-finals and final of the Men's 10m Platform event. Noah Williams and Kyle Kothari are both into the semis after strong prelims showing, Williams - fresh from that synchro silver with Daley - placing third after six consistent dives, across a four-hour event. Kothari also did the business to qualify 11th.
