Luke Turley has been selected for the British team at the
2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka – his first international
competition since winning bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham a year
ago.
His first British title came in the 400m Freestyle at the
British Swimming Championships of 2023 – an achievement which put him well on his way
to selection for his first Worlds, following an intense battle with his Bath
teammate Kieran Bird. He also secured a silver medal in the 800m Freestyle to
secure his most successful British Championships to date.
Turley competed in both the 400m and 1500m Freestyle at the
2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham with Team England – his first senior
international competition. Following a sixth place finish in the 400m event at
the start of the competition, Turley secured a hard-fought 1500m bronze medal in
front of the home crowd at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre with Team England –
fighting off a number of swimmers in the chasing pack for the final space on
the podium.
Prior to that result in Birmingham, Turley won
double silver behind Daniel Jervis in the 400m and 800m Freestyle events at the
2022 British Swimming Championships.
