Solid start for Brits on Day Three

18 May 2016

It was another strong morning in the pool for British Swimming team on day three of the European Aquatics Championships in London with a further eight final and semi-final berths secured.

Hannah Miley delivered a solid morning swim to win her heat in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley. Miley qualified second fastest and will line up in the semi-final later behind Katinka Hosszu.

Miley will be joined by British teammate Siobhan-Marie O’Connor who rounded off the fastest three qualifiers.

In the Men’s 200m Breaststroke Ross Murdoch leads the way into the semi-finals as he closed the heats ranked third while Craig Benson finished seventh.

Murdoch explained, “It was a really good time for a morning swim and I’m a bit surprised with how it felt. It’s been a tough couple of days here but that’s why we’re here and racing in season, we want to learn to be tough.

“I take every event very seriously, I never turn up just to have fun and play games. Go going out hard, racing fast and always trying to win, that’s me having fun.”

Kathleen Dawson and Georgia Davies also booked lanes in the semi-finals of the Women’s 100m Backstroke.

Dawson delivered her swim in a new personal best of 1:00.60 to go through as the fastest Brit and third in the overall rankings.

Chris Walker-Hebborn also secured himself a finals berth in the Men’s 50m Backstroke.

The final event of the morning was the Women’s 800m Freestyle and Great Britain’s Jazmin Carlin finished second fastest after 16 lengths of the London Aquatics Centre.
