Willis sets sights on third World final

6 Aug 2015

Andrew Willis has set his sights on a third consecutive World Championship final after qualifying second fastest from the 200m Breaststroke heats on day five at Kazan 2015.

The Commonwealth bronze medallist, who finished fourth at the 2013 Worlds in Barcelona, will go in lane four in his semi-final after touching second in his heat behind Germany’s European champion Marco Koch.

“Everyone has been swimming out of their skin and it’s been a great meet for us,” said Willis.

“Sitting there watching for five days is quite hard. I was anxious and nervous as you always are before you first swim at the big meet but I’m happy it’s done.

“It’s going to be tough because there’s a lot of depth in that event but I’ll just give it my best tonight.”

Adam Peaty finished 26th overall while Molly Renshaw missed out on the women’s 200m Breaststroke semi-finals by just 0.41 seconds after finishing fifth in her heat and 18th overall.

The women’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay quartet of Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, Rebecca Turner, Eleanor Faulkner and Hannah Miley closed the session by qualifying in seventh for tonight’s final.
