Brits secure 3m semi-final spots

30 Jul 2015

Jack Laugher and Chris Mears overcame the first hurdle to secure spots in the 3m Springboard semi final at the Kazan 2015 World Championships.

Laugher finished seventh on 450.80 while Mears secured the 18th and last qualification spot on 419.20

The British pair are in top form in Russia, having combined for 3m Synchro bronze two days ago. But a field of 61 divers made conditions difficult in the prelim with each round of dives taking up to 40 minutes.

Laugher showed his class with his third, fourth and fifth dives, scoring in the 80s for the former two and 96.90 for his forward 4 ½ somersaults with tuck.

A missed dive in the second round left Mears with work to do but he steadily made his way back up the scoreboard before sealing his spot in the semis with 83.60 for his final 4 ½ somersaults with tuck.

The 3m Springboard semi-final takes place at 13:00 in Kazan.
