Daley and Lee secure 10m final places

15 May 2016

Tom Daley and Matty Lee comfortably made it through to this evening’s final of the Men’s 10m Platform final the LEN European Aquatics Championships.

At the end of the first round it was a British one-two, Daley’s first dive, an Inward 3 ½ Somersaults Tucked which scored 86.40, sent him straight to the top of the rankings. Lee joined him to conclude a strong opening round for the Brits with a score of 81.60.

Daley finished with a final score of 500.65 and will lead the way in the 12 divers into this afternoon’s final.

“I’m really happy with the way the prelim went,” said Daley after the prelims. “Although there were lots of things that could’ve gone better, a little but sharper on all my dives really, I’m happy with that.

“I know I was up with the eights and nines this morning but ideally I want to be hitting the 9.5s and 10 in the final. My twister was probably my worst dive this morning, I got caught a little bit big in my shape and that prevented me from executing it properly.

“The turnout for the European Championships has been great, the crowd is going to be another big one tonight when Matty Lee and I go in the final. Having that crowd really does help.”

Lee finished with a score of 398.75, diving consistently throughout the rounds to confirm his place in the final.

“I think the prelims went really good, happy with how it where I finished and excited to be in the final,” said Lee.

“I went into this wanting to just have fun and I certainly did. I wanted to demonstrate to everyone that I’m diving strong and I think managed that. I’m going to make some changes for the final, I’m looking forward to later.”
