Tom Daley cruised through to the 10m Platform final on the penultimate day of diving at the Kazan 2015 World Championships in Russia.
The Olympic bronze medallist scored 524.70 to finish third in the semi final and secure Great Britain a quota place at Rio 2016 in the process.
China’s defending champion Qiu Bo (577.00) and World Cup champion Yang Jian (539.75) also made it through in the top two spots while Great Britain’s European Games champion and World Championship debutant Matty Lee finished 18th on 357.60.
Daley is aiming to reclaim the World title he first won as a 15-year old in 2009 and has already reached the podium in Kazan, claiming gold in the inaugural Mixed Team event with Rebecca Gallantree.
But the 21-year old insisted his main focus of the Championships had been a top 12 finish to secure an Olympic place for GB.
"I've been working towards this moment all year and to finally say I've qualified a spot for GB at the Olympic Games is a massive relief more than anything," said Daley.
"Now I can go into the off season a little bit more relaxed and I can go in and have fun tomorrow and let it rip.
"It was a pretty challenging day and a pretty long day of training and diving. The prelim was over four hours and the semi final was nearly two hours as well.
"I've been doing a lot of sprint work and cardio work with Jane [Figueiredo, coach] and that has really helped my endurance.
"There have been a lot of changes with my weights and nutrition and I feel as strong as I've ever been. Now it's about fine tuning the little bits."
Having finished seventh on his senior European debut earlier this season, Lee impressed to come through the prelims in 14th with a score of 437.35.
But while two missed dives put paid to his hopes of a place in his maiden Worlds final, the 17-year old insisted he was proud of his efforts in Kazan, having also finished ninth with James Denny in the 10m Synchro.
"It's my first ever World Championships so I was just really glad to get into the semi-finals," said Lee.
"I wasn't really expecting to get into the semi-final and I didn't dive too well in it but I'm not going to come away from this competition with my head down at all and I'll see what next year brings."
