FINA have approved the inclusion of mixed gender synchro events in the diving competition programme at world level events.
The new events will see men and women lining up together on the 3m and 10m boards.
National Performance Director Alexei Evangulov commented: “The last FINA decision regarding mix events is great opportunity to widen our sport, to increase popularity and to bring something new and fresh into the sport.”
Olympic bronze medallist Tom Daley added: “It’s really exciting that there is going to be mixed synchro pairs for diving. What a great way to develop the sport and have something new to add to the competition schedule.
“I think it will be good for audiences and I think the public will really get behind it.”
FINA also confirmed the inclusion of the mixed gender Duets for Synchronised Swimming.
