James Denny and Matty Lee served notice of their international potential with a world class performance in the 10m Synchro at the Kazan 2015 World Championships.
Competing at their maiden World Championships, the British pair looked at home on the big stage as they scored 396.84 to finish ninth overall.
Denny and Lee have only started diving together this season, tasting immediate success with gold at the British Championships, then an encouraging fifth at the European Championships in Rostock.
And while they scored 379.86 to scrape through to the final in the 12th and last qualification place from the prelims, the Brits raised their game when it mattered, adding nearly 20 points to their tally.
The highlights for Denny and Lee were an 81.60 for their inward 3 ½ somersaults with tuck and a 77.40 for their final dive, a forward 3 ½ somersaults piked.
And the City of Leeds divers admitted they had surpassed even their own expectations with their performance in Russia.
"The pressure was off a little for us in the final," admitted Lee, who will also be competing in the individual 10m Platform in Russia, having won gold at the European Games in Baku last month.
"We wanted to enjoy ourselves because we'd earned our spot there and it was our first ever World Championships so there were no expectations on us. We had fun and it obviously improved our performance.
"The year has gone better than I ever would have thought to be honest. Baku was great but I've still got a competition to go here but it's definitely a performance to be happy about.
"To be honest, next year is all about concentrating about getting to the Olympics and hopefully me and James will go for the synchro."
Denny added: "Matty and I have only been diving together since the start of this year so we've come really far to finish ninth in the world - I couldn't have expected that at the beginning of the year.
"This morning we finished and we weren't sure if we were in 13th or 12th. We literally had to wait until the very last dive of the competition so we were absolutely over the moon to make it to our first World Championship final at our first World Championships."
Lee will line up alongside 2009 world champion Tom Daley in the individual 10m Platform on Saturday 1 August.
