Elite junior divers in action in Plymouth

Great Britain’s finest junior divers have been in action in the 3m Synchro on the first day of competition at the British Gas Elite Junior Diving Championships 2014 in Plymouth.

British Gas National Cup champions Sam Thornton (City of Leeds) and James Heatly (Edinburgh) continued their run of good form this season with another impressive performance to win the boys' 14-18 years 3m Synchro by 40 points.

Thornton and Heatly almost scored 288.18 points for their second national gold of the season while Anthony Harding (City of Leeds) and Matthew Dixon (Plymouth) sealed the second podium spot with 249.36 points.

In the boys' 9-13 years 3m Synchro, Alfie Brown and Connor Van-Dal took the top spot for Star Diving Club and Southend Diving respectively with a score of 210.12. They were followed by Brandon Foster (Southampton Diving Academy) and Owen Harrison (City of Sheffield Diving Club) scoring 200.22.

City of Sheffield’s Millie Fowler and Millie Haffety finished on top with 250.14 points in the girls' 14-18 years 3m Synchro.

They were followed by Crystal Palace’s Grace May and Maddie Sweet (234.33) and City of Bradford’s Ruby Bower and Evie Webb (227.01) respectively. Crystal Palace narrowly missed out on a second podium finish with Rosie Cardoe and Jing Leung scoring 221.04 for a fourth place finish.

Finally, in the girls 9-13 years age group, Maria Papworth and Scarlett Mew Jenson secured 3m Synchro gold for Crystal Palace with a score of 223.98.

City of Bradford’s Holly Waxman and City of Leeds’s Emily Bearpack were not far behind, scoring 209.97 for the silver medal. The bronze went to Southampton for Tanya Watson and Emily Watson’s score of 196.14
