Jack Laugher eases in to the Men’s 3m Springboard final after he finished top of the rankings in London.

Laugher moved straight into the lead after the first round with his Front 2 ½ Somersaults 2 Twists piked, he scored 85.00 and an early margin of more than five points ahead of the second placed diver.

A dominant performance from the World bronze medallist throughout the six rounds of dives saw him close the prelims with a score of 495.05.

His final dive, a Back 3 ½ Somersaults 2 Twists piked scored him and sealed the top spot meaning he’ll start last in this evenings final.

“It was a good prelim, nice and steady with nothing dropped,” said Laugher.

“This is the longest prelim I’ve done this year by a long way so this is difficult for me, but it’s just about staying focused and sticking to my routine.

“There were a few people dropping dives around me but I kept my cool and I’m pretty happy.”

Sheffield-based diver Freddie Woodward also competed in the Men’s 3m, his second event of the European Aquatics Championships in London.

Woodward finished with a score of 341.05 points and which placed him 21st in the overall rankings.

Woodward stressed, “That’s not what I really wanted today, and maybe I’ve just put too much pressure on myself coming into London.

“I’m going to go away and learn from this, I’ve gained so much and now I can switch my focus to the Olympic trials in June.”
