Jack Laugher secured his first major senior international medal with 3m Springboard bronze at the FINA Diving World Cup in Shanghai.
The 19-year old has been in top form in China, splitting Chinese pair Cao Yuan and He Chong to finish second in yesterday’s semi final.
And Laugher held his nerve through the final, scoring 488.20 to claim his breakthrough medal and join He (540.35) and Cao (526.70) on the podium.
The British teenager recovered from a below-par opening effort to throw himself into contention in the second round, scoring 94.50 for his reverse 3.5 somersaults with tuck to move to second overall.
He slipped to eighth after an over-rotated entry on his third dive but an impressive 102.60 for his penultimate effort – a forward 4.5 somersaults with tuck – put him back into third ahead of the final round.
And Laugher, who won individual medals at the last three consecutive legs of this year’s FINA Diving World Series, was able to hold off Ukraine’s Illya Kvasha (486.15) with his final dive, scoring 81 for his back 3.5 somersaults.
The Brit will now travel to Edinburgh for his second Commonwealth appearance for Team England.
