Fresh from the remarkable achievements of Great Britain – and the rest of Europe – at the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, we are delighted to announce that tickets for London 2016 will be going on sale in September.
Europe collected 81 medals in synchronised swimming, diving and swimming in Russia, which across the three disciplines made Kazan 2015 the continent’s most successful World Aquatics Championships ever.
Host nation Russia won eight of the nine synchronised swimming titles on offer to help Europe to 14 medals for only the fourth time in the history of the World Championships.
Britain’s divers finished second in the medal table with a record haul of four as Europe took home 12 in total for their best effort for 17 years since Perth 1998.
And in the pool 55 medals were secured giving Europe an overall total of 81 with Britain placing fourth on the medal table with a best ever World Championship haul of nine including five gold.
With less than nine months to go until the iconic London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park opens its doors for the LEN European Aquatics Championships from 9th to 22nd May 2016, we can now confirm that tickets will be going on sale in September.
You can register for priority access to tickets for the event, which is part of UK Sport’s National Lottery backed #EveryRoadtoRio campaign, by signing up at www.euroaquatics2016.london/register, guaranteeing you the chance to see what will be the British swimming team for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at their home European Championships.
The news comes after British head coach Bill Furniss, who coached Rebecca Adlingtonto double Olympic gold at Beijing 2008 and double bronze at London 2012, confirmed his 2016 plans following the success in Russia.
“We’ve hit most of our targets this week and some would say we are in front of where we need to be. We have a hard year of training and racing ahead of us,” Furniss told British Swimming.
“We’ve got the European Championships in London next May. We are going to use that meet and take the Olympic team there and that’ll be good preparation meet for us.We have to have a break but then it will be straight back to it on the front foot and we have to improve in the next 12 months leading into Rio.”
We will be providing specific information regarding the date and ticketing process for what will be the biggest event to be held at the venue sine the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, along with the highly-anticipated schedule, in the coming weeks so keep your eyes peeled.
Meanwhile the national performance director of the British diving team, Alexei Evangulov, has also highlighted the importance of next year’s European Championships to his athletes.
“We have hit our UK Sport targets with three medals in Olympic events and the gold medal in the team event which is really positive,” Evangulov told British Swimming. “The divers will have a busy year ahead now as they prepare for Rio. They will have the World Cup in February where we will try to qualify for the rest of our Olympic Quota places.
“The European Championships are in London and they will be vital as a rehearsal for us prior to the Olympic Games. It will be good to compete in our home country. It will be really good for our male divers to compete against the Russians in the 10m and 3m ahead of the Olympics.”
