The second day of British Diving Championships in Edinburgh saw the women’s 3m Synchro and men’s 10m Synchro medals won by pairs making their competition debuts.
In the men’s 10m Synchro it was James Heatly and Lucas Thomson (Edinburgh Diving) who secured the top spot on the podium.
Heatly and Thomson put in a strong performance scoring over 60 on all of their optional dives.
They secured 94.20 points for the required dives to put them in a good position for the optional rounds.
They finished with their best dive though which was their Back 2 ½ Somersaults 1 ½ Twists piked which scored a total of 78.72. They won gold with 362.34 points.
“That was amazing,” Heatly said. “That was our first ever competition together. To make it to the podium and to the top of it is just more than we expected.
“We’ve just started working it this year,” Thomson said. “It worked really well for our first time. He’s a good synchro partner but he’s a bit tentative on the platform because he’s a springboard diver but he’s a good partner to have.”
Silver went to Noah Williams (Dive London) and Matthew Dixon (Plymouth Diving) with a total of 352.62.
Scarlett Mew Jensen (Dive London) and Yasmin Harper (City of Sheffield) won gold in the 3m Synchro in their first competition together.
Mew Jensen and Harper put in a steady performance to score 93.00 points after the required dives but it was the fifth round that was their best.
They scored a total of 62.10 points for their Front 2 ½ Somersaults 1 Twist piked and ended the final with a total of 244.02.
“It was really surprising,” Mew Jensen said. “We’re a new pair and it’s a bit overwhelming. I’ve got a rest day tomorrow ahead of the final of the 3m final on Sunday.”
“It’s been a good new experience with us because training at different centres we’ve done a few sessions together and it’s gone well,” Harper said.

Millie Fowler and Millie Haffety (City of Sheffield) won the silver with a total of 210.39.
Katherine Torrance (City of Leeds) and Matty Lee (City of Leeds) are in the top position after the prelims of the women’s 3m Springboard and men’s 10m Platform.
