Sandwell all set for crucial Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Champs

23 May 2024

The 2024 Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships are upon us, as four days of top-class diving action begin at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre today (Thursday 23rd May).

The prelims of the Men's 3m Springboard get underway at 6pm to light the touchpaper on the biggest domestic diving event of this Olympic cycle, with the competition playing a key role in final selections to the Olympic team that will head to Paris in July - as well as the group that will contest June's European Championships in Belgrade.

How to watch

Tickets are still available for fans who want to see those athletes vying for Olympic spots compete in the same pool that brought some incredible performances at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games - you can secure your seats here.

For those not sat in the Sandwell Aquatics Centre stands, every finals session will be broadcast live on the BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and app. Those sessions are:

  • Friday 24th May, 6pm - Men's 3m Springboard Final and Women's 10m Platform Final
  • Saturday 25th May, 4pm - Women's 10m Synchro Final and Women's 3m Springboard Final
  • Sunday 26th May, 11am - Men's 3m Synchro Final and Women's 3m Synchro Final
  • Sunday 26th May, 3pm - Men's 10m Platform Final

Every other session will be streamed live on the Aquatics GB YouTube channel.

Day one (Thursday 23rd May) features the prelims of the Men's 3m Springboard and Women's 10m Platform. In the men's springboard event, Olympic champion Jack Laugher, European medallist Ross Haslam, Commonwealth champion Dan Goodfellow and Tokyo Olympian James Heatly will be among those looking to progress to Friday's final, when they will vie for the British title and selection in the event for the Olympics.

In the women's platform contest, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix will look to defend her British crown against synchro partner Lois Toulson and European champion Eden Cheng, among others.

Friday's action begins with the Women's 3m Springboard prelims, as well as the Men's 10m Synchro final, before the Men's 3m Springboard and Women's 10m Platform finals take centre stage from 6pm.

On Saturday, the 11am session will see the prelims of the Men's 10m Platform competition, with that final bringing the curtain down on the whole Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships show on Sunday afternoon. Noah Williams and Kyle Kothari have registered successive top-six finishes at World Championships in that one, while Robbie Lee won European silver aged 18 last summer.

Saturday's afternoon session (4pm) consists of the Women's 10m Synchro final and the Women's 3m Springboard final, with Olympic selection again up for grabs in that individual contest.

Sunday morning (11am) features a pair of springboard synchro finals across both the men's and women's programme, before that Men's 10m Platform finale from 3pm.

Looking ahead to the event, Aquatics GB Associate Performance Director Tim Jones said: "So many of our divers have cherished memories of this venue from their time at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, when they performed outstandingly in front of a raucous home crowd.

Two years on, they return to Sandwell for what is a key event in our final selections for the Olympic team heading to Paris in just a couple of months' time, as well for the group that will contest June's European Championships in Belgrade - and that will make for some for truly top-class diving action over the next few days.

Every international competition that British divers have competed in during this Olympic cycle has demonstrated the reasons why our athletes will be pushing each other, as well as themselves on, when they take to the boards in Sandwell.

Whether it was a record medal haul from this year's World Championships in Doha, history-making successes for our female divers over the last two World Championships, eye-catching displays at last year's European Games, continued success at World Junior and European Junior level or even more recent examples at the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final and contests involving senior and junior divers out in Indianapolis and Dresden, our athletes' commitment and quality in training, as well as the world-class coaches and support staff they work with, is clear for all to see once they step into the arena.

For that reason, there will be plenty of athletes in contention to claim British titles across the four individual events of the Women's 3m Springboard, Women's 10m Platform, Men's 3m Springboard and Men's 10m Platform, with that final contest bringing the curtain down on the Aquatics GB Diving Championships with style and drama.

There will also be the chance to see some of our Olympic-bound synchronised pairings in action together for one of the final times before the summer.

There are still tickets available for every session of the Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships - so make sure to secure your seat now!
