Young Lois Toulson was in dominant form as she claimed diving’s first gold medal of the European Games in the Women’s Platform.
In the morning’s preliminary round, Toulson from City of Leeds was in impressive form as she qualified in second place on 389.20 points.
But 15-year-old was only just getting started, going on to amass 456.70 points in the final to win the gold ahead of Russian Anna Chuinyshena, while German Elena Wassen took home bronze.
And despite admitting she felt in good form heading into the competition, Toulson insisted a gold medal was beyond her wildest dreams.
“On that last dive I was following the Russian who had done the same dive so I was feeling the pressure,” she said.
“But it’s actually one of my favourite dives so I just tried to do it how I do in training and I’m pleased how it worked out.
“I was so nervous but I just had to find a way to calm myself down so I could concentrate on the dives.
“I don’t like to concentrate on other people and what they’re doing so I just focus on myself and try not to get distracted.
“I got a good score to make the final and I was hoping for a medal but I didn’t think it would be gold.”
Shanice Lobb (Plymouth Diving) fell just short of joining Toulson on the podium as she finished in fourth.
