British Swimming welcomes new CEO

2 Oct 2017

British Swimming’s chairman Maurice Watkins has welcomed Jack Buckner, the organisation’s new CEO, on his first day in the role.

Buckner, who was most recently the Chief Executive of the British Triathlon Federation, takes the reins of British Swimming after more than 25 years of working within the sports industry. He will provide strategic leadership as our sports continue to build on the back of their best ever Olympic and Paralympic Games’ performances in Rio.

Under Jack’s guidance, the organisation will continue to support and grow the culture of success within British Swimming as we work towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in just under three years’ time.

Previous to his role at British Triathlon, Jack worked as Strategic Lead for National Governing Bodies and Market Development for Sport England and was also the Marketing Director for Adidas USA.

On his starting his new position Buckner said: “I am delighted and honoured to be starting my new role as CEO of British Swimming.

“The role presents great opportunities and challenges and I’m excited to be part of this high-performing Olympic and Paralympic sporting body.

“I am looking forward to working with the whole British Swimming team, across all three of our sports, to strive towards Olympic and Paralympic podium success.”

Maurice Watkins CBE British Swimming Chairman said: “We are very pleased to welcome Jack [Buckner] as our new Chief Executive who succeeds David Sparkes OBE on his retirement earlier this year.

I am looking forward to working closely with Jack to build and drive our sports forward through the Tokyo 2020 cycle and beyond.”
