7 Sep 2017

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have confirmed that they will back Birmingham’s bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Following a review of both Birmingham’s and Liverpool’s proposal bids to compete for the honour of hosting the 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games the DCMS.

The Midlands city is now likely to face competition from countries such as Canada and Malaysia for the right to host the prestigious global multi-sport event.

If Birmingham is successful in being selected as the new host for 2022 then it will see a new 50m Aquatics centre and diving facility built; the only new venue to be constructed as part of the cities bid.
